Treatments

Non-Surgical Treatments

A significant proportion of musculoskeletal injuries can be treated non-surgically with satisfactory healing and gradual return to activity. An accurate diagnosis, a clear and defined treatment plan, referral to qualified professionals and proper medical follow-up will increase the chances of success. These treatments can include:

  • Activity modification.
  • Relative rest.
  • Icing/hot compress.
  • Physical Therapy.
  • Designated therapeutic training.
  • Medications.
  • Others: Shockwave therapy and more.

Injections

Injections of various substances into joints and additional body tissues have gained popularity in recent years for a wide range of diagnoses. Unfortunately, there is a flood of information in this area that is many times unfounded and even confusing. However, there is now sufficient evidence that in specific diagnoses, the treatment of certain injections has good potential for improving symptoms and accelerate healing. Injection therapy is an important therapeutic tool, but even more important is the patient's understanding of the properties of the injected substance, the chances of treatment success, the advantages / disadvantages of the treatment, possible risks of the treatment and evidence based expectations.
Injectable materials:

  • Steroids/Cortisone.
  • Hyaluronic acid.
  • Biologic treatments: Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), Regenogel, Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC) & more.

Surgical treatments

When the non-surgical treatments have been exhausted and without improvement, or alternatively, in specific diagnoses that require surgical intervention in order to achieve optimal results – surgical treatment is recommended. The key to success is the patient's understanding of the indication for surgery, the surgical procedure and its course, advantages / disadvantages, possible risks, the expected rehabilitation process and the level of activity to which one can return. Surgical treatments:

  • Surgical treatmet for stress fractures.
  • Compartment release in exercise induced compartment syndrome.
  • Knee arthroscopy and open surgery
  • Meniscus surgery
    (partial meniscectomy, meniscus repair).
  • Removal of loose bodies.
  • Cruciate ligaments reconstruction (Anterior/posterior).
  • Collateral ligaments reconstruction (Medial/lateral/posterolateral).
  • Cartilage procedures
    (debridement, repair, transplantation).
  • Tendon repair (Quadriceps tendon, Patellar tendon).
  • Procedures for patella instability.
  • Re-alignment surgery (osteotomy).
  • Hip arthroscopic and open surgery.
  • Labrum repair.
  • FAI (Femoroacetabular Impingement) treatment.
  • Tendons repair (Hamstrings, Gluteus Medius)
  • Arthroscopic and open shoulder surgeries.
  • Labrum repair.
  • Surgeries for instability/dislocations.
  • Rotator cuff tendons repair.
  • Tendons repair (Biceps, Pectoralis Major).
